MEATZINE: In the Autumn of 2016 London gay pinup zine meat travelled to Berlin to photograph some of gorgeous men in a fitting tribute to one of the most free and open gay cities in Europe.
This March the results of 4 days and 17 shoots in the homes of these gorgeous me, meat Berlin will be published by Photographer Adrian Lourie.
Adrian, who first published Meat in 2010, explained that he was “tired of the body shaming that goes on within the gay community.” Adding that his photography “celebrate’s the bodies of ‘ordinary’ gay men.”
Heading to Berlin is meat’s third outing from the UK after sell out issues photographed in San Francisco (meat SF) in 2013 and Paris (meat Paris) in 2016. As Adrian explains “Meat is very much about regular British men but it is incredibly poplular in outside of the UK, so it’s lovely to have a chance to meet some fantastic men from different cities across Europe and show that as gay men wherever we live, we have more in common than the things that make us different.”
In two editions you can enjoy an eclectic and diverse mix of prime German beef in their undies or less.
“If you can become just your own self, if you can blossom into your intrinsic nature, then only you will have blissfulness – a peace which cannot be expressed in words, and a certain poetry to your being; a certain dance to your being, because you will be in tune with existence. To be in tune with yourself is the only way to be in tune with existence.” – Osho

VIVO MEDIA ARTS CENTRE: Gayblevision, Canada’s first television program made “for gay people by gay people”, was produced through Vancouver’s West End Cable 10 between 1980-1986. It documented the local LGBTQ community – the issues, people, events, businesses and organizations that defined the early 1980s. It includes rare interviews with community leaders and cultural icons, and provides insight into the formation of the Pride movement and the impact of AIDS.
Co-founder and first President, Don Durrell, donated the collection in 1993. It includes over eighty Gayblevision episodes and those of Pacific Wave, a series initiated December 1983 by Durrell and other Gayblevision producers. Co-founder Mary Anne McEwen donated additional Gayblevision videos including raw footage of their Tennessee Williams interview. Other videos include an AIDS Special, Pride tapes, promotional segments, audio tracks, and working cassettes. In 2014 a donation of production stills and other ephemera was made in honour of McEwen.
