THANK YOU for that photo of Eva (cream colored ball gown) and Zsa Zsa (turquoise sequins.) It was taken backstage at the Plymouth Theater in 1984 when Eva Gabor replaced Colleen Dewhurst in “You Can’t Take it With You.” As she was a replacement, there were no publicity photos taken. For publicity, her own head shots were used. She played the exiled Russian Grand Duchess Olga Katrina, a small role in the last act. But she brought the house down with a few lines that were not written for her, but seemed to have been.

Mr. De Pinna: You know, Highness, I think you waited on me in Childs’ once. The 72nd Street place?

Grand Duchess: No. That was my sister. I work in Times Square.

Biggest laugh of the evening. Even the great Colleen Dewhurst couldn’t top her on that one.
