HECTOR BLACK “90-Year-Old Gay Man Recalls Long Struggle With His Sexuality” and other things. (via NPR)

NPR: Ninety-year-old Hector Black has been on Radiolab and StoryCorps, talking about how he forgave the man who murdered one of his daughters. But he tells NPR’s Ari Shapiro a different story — one he hasn’t shared before. It’s his life as a closeted gay man — a husband and a father — who didn’t come out until he was 70 years old.

Do you ever look at what people comment? Have you nothing to say? You’re a waste of time.

I do sometimes… and on the Facebook group… and personal emails people send me.
      Why so negative?
If I’m “a waste of time” or you really can’t handle my use of exclamation points…

I’m not ‘negative’. Far from it.

What is the point of leaving a comment on your site if you don’t feel you wish to engage with anyone?

Who cares a monkey’s uncle if you ‘sometimes’ respond on the Facebook page or personal e-mails people send you?

I’m a great admirer of your site, especially when you dig into past cultural history. I’m sorry if you take umbrage, but could you not just once in a while acknowledge and expand on what your followers’ say?

Excessive use of exclamation marks is very tiresome and actually after a while become meaningless. If you’ve got something to say, just say it.

With all warm regard, and happy new year,
