Rare video from an early performance of The Cockettes. San Francisco UHF Channel 36. editors note: According to David Weissman the producer of The Cockettes documentary this clip features “John Rothermel and Drew Eshelman, and is most likely from 1972.” Before posting this clip I did double check with Bill about the year – upon reflecting he said: “It’s definately ’69…” It is from San Francisco, from what Bill remembers as UHF Channel 36. Apparently a station where Video West material was broadcast later in its history.
how well i remember ch36, whose ‘mascot’ was carol doda, of topless entertainments fame, who promoted the station by it’s slogan, ‘the perfect 36′…although she was more of a 44.
ahhh…the cockettes…sylvester…the late night shows at the pagoda theater. what a time to be young and living in san fran! when the city was still famed for its personalities. seems like a million years ago.
